Re : Hello! Former Alliance owner

Hello, this is my first post. I am a former owner of a base 1987 Renault Alliance that I purchased new back in August of 1987.  I owned my Alliance for exactly three years and made the stupid mistake of trading it in for a 1990 Dodge Shadow in July 1990.

I loved my Alliance. It came with absolutely nothing in it. Not even a radio. It was a 4-speed manual with the 1.4L engine. I added side moldings, pin-stripes, wheel covers, upgraded the horrible Goodyear Corsa tires, and put a nice stereo in it. As much as I loved it, looking back, it was so poorly screwed together that I almost wonder how it didn't fall apart on me. I remember the sun visor fell into my lap one day because the screws fell out of the headliner! The muffler rotted within 1 year, the front and rear shock absorbers leaked oil, the rear interior side panels felt like they were made out of paper. The rear suspension creaked and croaked and the car actually sat a little crooked in the back. But, like I said, I loved that car. It always started (except one time the Champion spark plugs fouled) and although it was slow like molasses, it was very comfortable to drive. Here are two pictures I took of the car the day before I traded it in (July, 1990) and the original bill of sale.

Needless to say, I haven't seen an Alliance on the road since the mid-1990's here in London, Ontario, Canada.  Anyway, I thought you would enjoy the story and the pictures.

Hello Alain.  Nice GTA!   I almost bought a used one in 1988 when I brought my Alliance into the dealership for some routine service.  It was silver and had low kilometers on it.   But at that time, the Honda CRX had caught my attention and I would eventually buy one of those in 1991 (which I still own to this day):

Re : Hello! Former Alliance owner

I found this ad on the internet.  It is very interesting because it is a page out of the 1988 Renault promotional booklet.  Notice the 1988 Renault Alliance and GTA pictured.  Looks like they were not going to have any serious changes for 1988.  I wonder if they were ever going to redesign it?  AMC/Renault would have had a nice fleet of vehicles for 1988 if Chrysler had not bought them.  They would have had full-size Premier, mid-size Medallion, compact Alliance and sporty GTA.  Too bad we never got to see this happen.

It look in very good shape ! As I saw in the bill, this is your second Civic, you have sold the first for buy the Alliance.

About the Premier, the american version of R25 (in reality, the R21 was used as a basis for this model), they were made in the Bramalea, Ontario, Canada plant (this plant was built by Renault and now own by Fiat-Chrysler). Only 200 Renault Premier leaved the plant with the rhombus on the grill, the others cars were rebadged Eagle Premier, or Dodge Monaco.  smile
